My Two Cents: Rise

Auguste Roc

"We won't know how good we are until we give them a chance to perform under pressure."

A recent quote from a college football coach assessing his players and contemplating his teams chances of succeeding in the upcoming season, caught my attention.

It was a news show that I was listening to and the reporter asked the coach if he would he be able to fill the void created by the departure of one of his top athletes and more importantly, "the leader" of his team.

His response resonated and made me think:

"We won't know how good we are until we give them a chance to perform under pressure."

Sports is a lot like life, sometimes you get thrown a curve ball, sometimes you get blind sided. Stuff happens.

And in sports just like in life, it's not always a question of "What we're going to do", but rather a question of "Who we are going to be."

When you are just going about your business, when you've laid your best plan and you find yourself hit from out of left field --

"Who" is going to show up -- to play?

It takes courage to perform under pressure but that is when you will find out what you are made of and just how far you can go.

Life just happens and sometimes it happens without warning. The deck gets reshuffled, the players change, but we still have to show up for the game - for our life.

Who are you going to be when the pressure is on and its time for you to perform?

When you think that you don't have what it takes, you might find out that you do...

That's my two cents (for whatever it's worth),
